Porto Accuse Mikel Arteta of Personal Insults
Sergio Conceicao, manager of Porto, has accused Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta of insulting his family after the two teams went head-to-head last night, Tuesday 12 March.
The Gunners claimed their spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over the Portuguese visitors at Emirates Stadium in London, England.
Two quick saves by Arsenal goalkeeper, David Raya, should have left Arteta in a good mood; however, the two managers appeared to exchange some tense words shortly after the final whistle rang out after 120 minutes of gameplay.
The feuding pair were eventually separated by match officials, with neither of them looking happy as they stalked away from one another.
When asked about the incident during the post-match press conference, Conceicao said: “What Arteta said, towards the bench in Spanish, he insulted my family.” He later added: “He should focus on training his team. The result was unjust. The team deserved to go through.”
According to Arsenal sources, Arteta has denied the allegations, but when asked about the matter during his own post-match press conference, he simply replied with: “No comment.”
